Finishing and improving a house in the Maasai village
This Maasai family became sedentary a few generations ago. They are embracing a more modern lifestyle and like several men in the family, Msafiri works in the city of Moshi to support his family. As the oldest son, Msafiri was given a piece of land on the family plot where he started building a brick house in 2004. Whenever he had some capital he would invest it in his house and after 6 years the rough structure was completed. With this first project of C-re-aid we decided to finish this modern house of Msafiri´s family. In doing so, we would research the reactions and additional interventions taken by the family after finishing the house.

The students plastered the house, inside and outside, made a floor and painted the house. The students tried to be careful in their technique while plastering in order to use as little material as possible. For the colors and drawing of the exterior facade, the students worked closely together with the family. They chose for bright colors to become an eye catching point in the neighborhood.
Months after the completion of the project the family had decorated the house with curtains and plants. 2 year later, in 2014, Msafiri is still improving his house and recently a solar panel with 6 light bulbs has been installed.
