Joseph

JOSEPH JOEL BATEGEREZA: born in Tanzania. He studied his bachelor of Architecture and Design (B.Arch.) at Ardhi University. While at university he developed an interest in housing, environmental sciences, and the design of infrastructure in community buildings. In 2013 during a family trip to Sweden, Joseph was inspired by Swedish architects, and how they incorporate sustainability into building construction. Joseph returned to Tanzania, inspired to improve the building infrastructure in his home country.

In 2016, Joseph went to study a short course on building design and engineering approach to airborne infection control (AIC), hosted at Harvard medical school in USA. To gain further practical experience, he worked as a graduate architect for a firm based in Dar es Salaam.

Joseph wanted to see the knowledge which he has accumulated benefiting under privilegded people, and serving communities unable to afford architectural services. In his search for an architectural organization which reflected these values, he found C-re-aid. After collaborating with the NGO to conduct a groundwork project in 2017, Joseph decided to remain long- term. He hopes to research, share and learn with the team, indigenous communities, to secure his own design voice in the world.

Apart from professional life Joseph has passion for people of different backgrounds, cultures, outreach, books, children, gospel music and comedy.
