Strategy

Through research and experience, C-re-aid has identified that the following conditions are present throughout Tanzania:

-There is a rapidly changing building culture; fuelled by globalisation, climate change and deregulated environmental policies. These factors have resulted in housing programmes focused on ‘quantity over quality’ – ultimately creating poor living conditions for a large demographic of Tanzanian’s.

-This directly impacts the socio-economic status of individuals, perpetuating a cycle of hardship.

-The continued use of un-ecological building methods and materials, paired with the ever increasing demand for housing and infrastructure, will result in a negative environmental footprint.

Through our research and projects, C-re-aid hopes to ensure that individuals have access to sustainable, ecological and affordable building methods and materials. We strongly believe that architecture has potential reaching far beyond purely aesthetic enhancements. C-re-aid sees responsible construction practices as a means of laying the literal foundations for long-term socio-economic benefits.

M I S S I O N

C-re-aid tasks itself with exploring the possibilities of responsible architecture. We hope to make sustainable and ecological building methods and materials accessible to all; in turn, triggering socio-economic improvements within communities experiencing hardship.

G O A L S

We endeavour to contribute towards positive change through the implementation of the following goals:

KNOWLEDGE

Research and develop affordable and locally available building materials and techniques, in order to create a sustainable, ecological building culture.

DESIGN & PROJECT

Make responsible architecture available to all, and positively change the current building culture to improve general living conditions; ultimately assisting in the fight against poverty.

TRAINING

Educate and train international and local individuals, in order to motivate more people to become involved in the field of social architecture.

ORGANISATION

Be an independent and financially strong organisation.

Our goals are implemented through C-re-aid’s five branches. Learn more about our branches here.

P R O C E S S

To create a place where an affordable and sustainable building method replaces the ad-hoc building culture, C-re-aid is in constant communication with its local context. This ongoing dialogue results in a linear process.

RESEARCH plays a key role within our action, as it not only allows us to understand the context we work in, but also leads the way to innovation. KNOWLEDGE generated through research is then put into practice by producing different small-scale tests. Experience gained throughout this TESTING PHASE is eventually implemented in specific PROJECTS on the ground. Finally, our expertise is shared through different WORKSHOPS in which we demonstrate and apply the gathered knowledge. As it is our goal to introduce architecture into everyday life, both external organisations and individuals can call upon our help where needed. C-RE-AID PLUS offers us the possibility to take on projects with a social impact and present our expertise to a wider audience.
